Overview
UPDATE: Public Voting Has Concluded
Public rating has concluded. Thanks to everyone who partook. The finalists will be announced later this week, before being screened at our Gala Celebration at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday August 1.
How the competition works
- Create an ad – produce a 30 second video clip providing an original and compelling take on an important issue for Australia. Get your mates around as actors, hire a camera, edit it on your computer – you could end up on prime-time TV.
- Upload it - upload it to our site using our simple online tools.
- View videos and cast your vote – take a look at what others have submitted and rate them. Thousands of other Australians will also cast their votes.
- Stand by for final judging – a celebrity judging panel will make the hard decisions between the top 10 shortlist. All finalists will be invited to a gala awards night at the Sydney Opera House, August 1, 2007.
- See it on the air – Together we will donate to ensure the ad is screened on national, prime time television in the lead-up to the federal election. This project is all about cutting out the middle man. So together, Australians will chip in to screen OUR favourite ad.

All GetUp campaigns, including this one, are funded entirely by the public. If you would like to donate to ensure maximum exposure for the winning ad, please do so here.
Timeline
Entries will open April 20, and close on June 30, 2007.
Online voting to determine a shortlist will open for two weeks in July, to narrow down submissions to a final shortlist. A gala awards night will be held at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday August 1, when our celebrity judging panel will announce both the overall winner, and a special category award for non-professional entries.
The overall winning entry will be screened on national, prime-time television in the lead up to the 2007 federal election!
Guide for Ad-Makers
We’re looking for ads that advance your vision of Australia. It could be a call to action on an issue close to your heart, an idea that brings us closer to the Australia you want to live in; or your take on a major policy or event.
Be as creative as you like, but please keep the following in mind:
- Feel free to discuss policy and politicians – but don’t endorse a specific political party.
- Make sure you don’t infringe copyright.
- Make sure your ad does not contain material inappropriate for prime time television. Inappropriate ads will not be permitted on the website.
We encourage entries from both professional and amateur film-makers and advertisers.
