Midwives, working alongside the women they serve, will light the way to better birth.
Time for reform - things are getting worse
The death rate for newborn babies has stayed the same over the last 10 years while maternity outcomes on every other indicator have deteriorated - caesarean rates up by 50%, increasing induction and augmentations rates, postpartum haemorrhage, including haemorrhages resulting in hysterectomy, more preterm births, more rural closures - the list goes on. It is time for reform of maternity services and recognition of midwives as primary care givers.
