If the Howard government is re-elected, they will make Australia a Nuclear State the very next day.

If this happens, everything about Australia and Australians will change forever. The values of our community will be shifted permanently to the darker side.

The Howard government could even legally do this by force if they choose to. That means, Australian Troops could be deployed to secure construction sites and transport corridoors. Protest actions against such developments could be made to be illegal, and deemed a threat to national security. Think about where this would lead to in the future.

I say yes to nuclear science. I say yes to nuclear medicine. But, I say no to the nightmare that is a Nuclear Industry. We dont need it. We dont want it. I say NO to the intractable radio-active waste that comes with it.

We havent got the right to leave these toxic bi-products and deadly waste streams for our future generations to deal with.

I say turn off some lights, grow some plants, stop buying and manufacturing rubbish, and leave the uranium in the ground.

P.S. - It seems to me that the Howard government's recent push to re-write the N.T. Indigenous Land-Rights Act could very easily be their attempt to clear the last obstacle to creating an international nuclear waste dump in northern or central Australia.

The choice for us is between a clean and organic habitat on earth - and a contaminated one.
